Grade 6 Driving Instructor Alan Powell provides driving lessons for learner drivers across North Devon.
Alan accepts students of all learning backgrounds. So whether you’ve never touched the steering wheel or are looking for some refresher tuition in the run up to your test, your driving lessons will be tailored to your needs in order to get you driving safely and confidently. On average, it takes Alan’s pupils 6 - 9 months (with 1 lesson per week) to be “test ready”.

Based in Westward Ho! near Bideford, Alan is a popular and trusted driving instructor for learner drivers across North Devon. Alan has many pupils who are students at Petroc, Bideford College, Park and Torrington schools as his lessons can be arranged to fit your timetable.
Alan is calm natured, patient and personable, and will endeavour to provide relaxed, enjoyable and rewarding driving lessons no matter what your needs and abilities. Lessons can be booked on an hourly basis although there is a reduction in price for block booking 10 hours at a time
Grade 6 RoSPA Gold Standard Driving Instructor for North Devon
Driving instructors (ADIs) have traditionally been assessed by the DVLA in a grading system that runs from 1 (extremely poor) to 6 (very high). For the past 8 years, Alan has held a consistently strong level 6 grade standard of approval. The new 2015 system for retests is graded A,B or Fail.

With Alan Powell you’ll be learning to drive in one of his 2 modern Mini Coopers. The Mini Cooper is a great car for learning to drive – a comfortable size for learning manoeuvres, reliable, fuel efficient and a pleasure to handle. You’ll be the envy of the road driving around in such a trendy set of wheels!

Alan’s calm and understanding nature makes him the perfect driving instructor for nervous drivers. Alan will take as much time as you need and work with you to help overcome your anxieties in order for you to pass your test as a confident and skilful driver.
It can often be difficult for people who have learning difficulties to find a driving instructor that they can trust to understand their extra needs and have the patience to explain things in a way that they can understand. Alan fully recognises this need and aims to offer driving lessons that are tailored to the needs and specialist requirements of the individual, helping those who may struggle with the daunting task of learning to drive with a uniquely personal driving lesson experience. Lessons are based upon trust, understanding and positivity.
